Cat Gaskell Memorial 10k and 3k Races

In August 2021, Cat Gaskell, a beloved member of the Newton Road Runners family tragically lost her battle with mental ill health. Cat was a key member of the community, a beloved friend and a fantastic runner.

A few months later, with the support of Cat's family, the club held a 10k race to raise money for McMillian and for SAMH in Cat's memory. The support for the race was breath-takingly positive and extended far beyond the running community. As a result the race was further developed into an annual event with an added 3k race for children.

The aim of the race is to raise awareness of mental ill health and much needed donations for charities that support those affected by mental illness.

Our registration opens at 10am at the Newton Arms pub less than a 1km along the road. During registration you will be able to collect your number and toilets are available. Please give yourself plenty of time to get from the pub to the start line.

Limited parking is available at the pub, however there is ample parking at Newton train station. Please do not park on Westburn Road. This is a residential area and must be kept clear for local residents.

The Route

Both routes are an 'out and back' along the Clyde pathway. The routes are predominantly a flat tarmac path with a couple of "spicy" hills before a flat charge to the finish. The diagram below shows the 10k route.

After the Race

This race is about awareness and community, and that is exactly what it is known for. After the race every participant, volunteer and supporter is invited to join us back at the Newton Arms for drinks and pizza. The club hosts a raffle with proceeds going to the nominated charity for that race. A shinning example of just how supportive the running community is.
